The performance and interpretation of songs in foreign languages is a complex phenomenon. The level of this complexity is dependent on elements such as:
- a performer's ability to understand the text on the translation level
- an objective assessment of its content in terms of how it relates to a performer's general view of the world
- a performer's ability to express the text accurately on the phonetic level
consolidation of a text, mastered in terms of its content and pronunciation, within its musical context
Foreign language teaching in Polish schools rarely goes into the area of the principles of phonetics. This workshop will include classes showing how to easily develop one's own system of working on foreign language diction with the aid of a good dictionary, as well as audio and video materials.
Rhythm is one of the fundamental elements of music, comprising the root, trunk and branches of its tree. Understanding rhythm, the principles of its calculation and division into meters and values is a basic skill that helps not only in development of the ability to find oneself in a musical space, but above all to develop musically in general. The aim of these classes is to raise awareness of the importance of rhythm, and to provide basic knowledge that will facilitate further independent work, and development towards complete control of rhythm with a greater level of awareness.
One of the basic challenges that amateur instrumentalists and singers are faced with is developing effective sound projection (in the case of singers) and articulation (in the case of instrumentalists). This course aims to provide knowledge on the manner in which sound should be projected, in order for it to convey a personal and - most importantly - clear musical message.
Improvisation is an essential element of jazz, as well as genres such as blues, rock, reggae, soul and funk. Improvisation is spontaneous composition, based largely on listening to the musicians one is playing with. These classes aim to provide basic knowledge on how to improvise, and explain the basic principles of improvisation and its implementation in the above-mentioned musical genres.
Interpretation is an aspect of music that has particularly developed in jazz. The goal of the interpretation classes is to show how a text can be treated so as to instill it with meaning, in order to communicate with the listener in accordance with the singer’s intentions. It also aims to show what kinds of modifications one can afford in the presentation of a musical theme, in the case both singers and instrumentalists.
Classes will be held with the accompaniment of a rhythm section comprised of drums, bass, and piano.
Ensemble singing is a way of creating a lively improvisational choir that can create a 'percussion' effect based on a section of the group taking up an initial rhythmic figure, on which another portion of the group superimposes a successive figure in simple counterpoint to the first. This type of rhythmic mosaic is achieved combining tones at simple intervals to one another, and the 'melodic motifs' which are sung change during the singing. The choir follows the cues of a leader. The goal of this activity is to enter a trace-like sort of exercise, in order to see that repetition leads to 'ingraining' - or reinforcement of expression – while also feeling the chemistry of collective music-making.
The aim of these classes is to encourage creative playing and singing within the scope of a given text or melody.
During this workshop we will try to dissolve the tension that we accumulated in our tissues. We will work gently with the techniques of relaxation, Thai massage, contact improvisation, dance and Asthanga yoga to get to know better how our body works.
